The NRL Plasma Formulary is now available as a widget for the Mac.

The Hard Copy Classic

The NRL Plasma Formulary, in handy, pocket-sized booklet form, is available for free from the Naval Research Laboratories (NRL).  Your tax dollars at work!  Go Navy!

The NRL Plasma Formulary has been the mini-Bible of plasma physicists for the past 25 years. It is an eclectic compilation of mathematical and scientific formulas, and contains physical parameters pertinent to a variety of plasma regimes, ranging from laboratory devices to astrophysical objects.

The New Electronic Version

And now, the NRL is available for download for the mac: Plasma Parameters Widget.

Designed by David Pace, this Dashboard widget “calculates an assortment of relevant plasma parameters given user inputs of basic characteristics. For example, the user provides the background magnetic field and the widget displays the electron cyclotron frequency.”

Both versions are free.  Get all two!  The widget is handy, crunching the numbers for you.  The the booklet’s classic layout can’t be beat, and it will still work in case of power outages.

Thank you to Scott Hsu for letting us know about this!
