The Fusion Energy League was founded by Rezwan Razani, who is also serving as its first Executive Director.  More about the origins of Fusion Energy League »

Our intrepid Board consists of Linda Schade, Souzan Maleki-Thoresen and Michael Thoresen.  As a fresh startup, we are looking to build our board.  Do you have what it takes?  Find out about serving on the board.

The Fusion Energy League (FEL) is a non membership organization.  This means the members of the Board of Directors are the only voting members in the corporation.  Other participants are classified as Associate Members, and are non-voting members of FEL.

Some have suggested that FEL should be a membership organization, made up of researchers in the fusion community.  Such an organization already exists (Fusion Power Associates) and this structure does not seem oriented towards the expansive and social approach being taken by FEL.

By definition, a membership organization is established in order to procure benefits for its members.  Thus the question is, “Who are our members?”

Are they “Fusion Researchers?”

We want to ensure that researchers of the fusion community have access to the resources required in order to achieve fusion. Thus we work hard to allocate resources to them.  However, their benefit is not our primary goal.  Rather, it is a means to an end.

It is the general public, the planet, we as consumers, that we want to see benefit.  On some occasions, the interests of “everyone” might be different from that of “fusion researchers,” who may get caught up in some questions to the neglect of other questions of greater public benefit.  Our organization is geared for the benefit of the public.  We ask, what will bring fusion energy about the quickest?  And, How can we (the public) derive the greatest pleasure from the journey to fusion?  Given that our members are, “Everyone” and “The Earth”.  This makes us more of a standard “charitable organization”.

We are open to changing to a membership structure in the future if this will improve our effectiveness and sense of community.  See Article 3 of the Bylaws (pdf).  Let us know how you feel about this!
